Three good reasons to strengthen your legs after the age of 55 — Josée Lavigueur: Lib Active!

It’s perfectly normal for our bodies to start changing in our fifties, but that’s no reason to slow down! However, it’s the perfect time to focus on your muscle strength, especially in your legs. Here’s why:

Remain autonomous

Strong legs are the key to remain autonomous longer. Climbing stairs, walking on uneven ground, getting up from a chair… all of these activities are easier with strong and muscular legs.

Prevent falls

With age, balance becomes more difficult. By strengthening your quadriceps, hamstrings and calves, you improve your stability and reduce the risk of falling, thus preventing potential serious consequences.

Stimulate blood circulation

Moving your legs is also good for the heart! Muscular exercise promotes better circulation, which helps prevent varicose veins, numbness, and even certain cardiovascular problems.

In this video, Josée Lavigueur demonstrates an excellent squat exercise that you can do at home, with a simple chair. It’s safe, accessible and perfect to gently strengthen your legs. It’s good for everyone, from beginners to those more advanced.

Seniors — our living memory, more valuable than any artificial intelligence technology

Let’s listen to their stories, celebrate their worth, and honour those who helped shape our lives.

Three good reasons to strengthen your triceps after the age of 55 — Josée Lavigueur: Lib Active!

If you’re over 55, you might think that strength training is only for younger people. However, strengthening your triceps is an excellent way to stay fit and autonomous. Here are three good reasons to start exercising—or step up your routine!

Preserve your functional strength

Your triceps play a key role in everyday movements like carrying groceries, lifting a suitcase, and getting up from a chair. Maintaining their strength will help you remain autonomous.

Protect your articulations

Having well-trained muscles around the shoulders and elbows helps stabilize the joints and reduces the risk of injuries. This is especially true for triceps, which tend to be neglected even though they are equally important.

Improve your posture and appearance

Toned arms improve your posture, and they also boost self-confidence. Who says you can’t have beautiful arms when you’re over 55?

Looking for inspiration? We are excited to introduce our new fitness videos with the dynamic Josée Lavigueur: Lib Active! She will teach you simple triceps exercises that you can integrate into your everyday routine.

A heartfelt gesture!

Throughout the year, the Lib tenants undertook various initiatives to raise funds for the Mathieu Froment-Savoie Foundation, a palliative care home in Gatineau. Their commitment was crowned with success, raising an impressive $3,000.

Francis Charron, president of the EMD-Batimo group which built this unique living environment, guided by his legendary generosity, decided that the company would double this amount. A cheque for $6,000 was presented to the f oundation. A gesture which testifies to the solidarity, involvement, and philanthropic commitment of an amazing community, and which will have a significant impact on this noble cause.

Congratulations to all participants on this great success. There’s strength in numbers, and together we can make a difference in people’s lives!

Lib Aylmer – When the Christmas magic happens

An ambassador of the Lib Aylmer from the very start, Jack King is a sensitive and engaging man who gives freely of his time.

He enjoys a solid reputation within his community and he and his wife Suzy couldn’t have hoped for a better environment than the Lib to enjoy life. As a couple or among friends, any moment is a pretext to celebrate!

While his wife dives head first into the holiday spirit, Jack describes himself as a friendly Grinch. But as you know, the Christmas magic always ends up happening.

A special thanks to the Galeries Aylmer for their contribution. Please note that Santa Claus will be on site, in the heart of his kingdom, until December 24.

Lib Aylmer – An Olympic surprise

On September 29, the team of the Lib invited a legendary athlete to attend the inauguration of the pool: an inspiring woman who won over the hearts of all Quebecers.

So it was that Sylvie Fréchette came to surprise some of the tenants and invited them to enjoy a unique swimming experience. The event concluded with a lively celebration to which all the members of the complex’s community were invited. A moment of happiness in good company to extend the summer. It’s now up to you to dive into the heart of this celebration!

Thank you to everyone who came out to join in the fun. Your enthusiasm for this event means that more great times are sure to come! The community is really taking shape, and it’s people like you who will make it special.

Lib Aylmer – Sangria and mariachis!

This month, the Lib had a classic summer get-together to celebrate the start of many budding friendships.

This month, the Lib had a classic summer get-together to celebrate the start of many budding friendships. Held in collaboration with local businesses, the event gave residents the chance to christen the patio, fire up the grill and share a scrumptious meal of seasonal delights. The whole community joined in to celebrate the season with a quintessential summer treat: ice cream. And to top it all off, the surprise musical performance hit just the right note. A few partygoers couldn’t help but dance!

A huge thank-you to the event partners, La Femme à Marier & Cie, La Trappe à Fromage, William J. Walter Sausages and the one and only Chocolat Favoris, the Lib’s across-the-street neighbour on Principale Street, as well as musical guests Les Mariachi Figueroa for livening things up!
